[AlpacaTalk] Re: crias and colustrum

Dear All-

I have developed a new product called "CRIA THRIVE", this is a Flower
Essence combination formula for Crias and other new baby animals. It
assists with the will to survive, the will to nurse. This is a holistic
non toxic tincture that can be placed in a bottle. The best bottle we
have found is an unused Fleet enema bottle with the top cut, to be used
as the nipple. This tincture can also be placed in directly in the mouth
of the animal, under the tongue. I have had several critical cria on
various farm, have miraculous results and able to gain weight. Please
call me or email me for testimonies.

Congrats Wendy! The crias are always so adorable. I have a question - where
did you get the colostrum? I recently lost a newborn as the mama died either
in childbirth or soon after. She was dead when I got up that morning and the
baby nearly dead. A friend got right over with some frozen goat colostrum
she had saved from her goats and I bottle fed for 4 days before the perfect
little one died. I was so sad as the daddy had died in January and this was the
only thing I had left of him. The mama's death was a total shock. She went
off her feed the night before but had been apparently fine right up until then.
I was horrified and heartbroken the next morning.
I have had other babies that couldn't nurse - we seem to have a frequent
premmies or weak crias that can't or won't nurse. I am not that experienced and
have a very small hobby herd for fiber.
So I was curious as to where and how you obtained colostrum - was it alpaca?

Someone recently posted that they had all male babies - me too! What is that
all about? I have had 5 crias total and each and every one has been a male!

Thanks, Janice in GA

Re: [AlpacaTalk] a new birth

way to go---------congrats----We too had our 6 cria born yesterday, He was
an easy delevery, moms 3rd. and he is very active! very strong, he weighed 21
lbs and 3 oucnes. So far this year, he was the quickest to to get his legs,
and nurse, about 20 minutes after birth. It's so nice nice when they do
everything on thier own, quickly. It takes a lot of the stress off the 2 legged
ones. llol. we have had 5 boys and 1 girl, this year. should have had 7,
but one of our females, fooled us, turns out she wasn't perg, afterall. I'm so
glad things turned out good for you, and the dam!! And yes, you are so
right, it really is a releif when it's over with, and a good ending!

Re: [AlpacaTalk] a new birth

Hi Wendy,

Sharing such a lovely success story is what it's all about.
Congratulations from across the pond to you. It sounds to me like you
did a great job of helping them both out. What a joy it must be to you.

We are in the middle of birthing and so far have had 5 cria (4 boys and
1 girl), and 2 more to go. Fingers crossed all will go well with them
all. It is both an anxious and a wonderful time isn't it?!

Very Best Wishes

[AlpacaTalk] a new birth

hi - we had a beautiful boy born yesterday - he is mom's first cria and she had a rough time, he was very frail at birth and we were very concerned - he didn't nurse and we finally gave him colustrum by bottle after 5 hours. But two hours later he was up and aggressively nursing and mom had settled down and figured it all out.

Last night he was even having a little play time around the shelter, coordinating those long legs and bouncing around.

this morning he is bright, alert, nursing strongly and exploring the paddock with his mom. I have our "aunty" alpaca (14 years old) in with the two

A beautiful little guy, he shows both his mom and dad's heritage - he's definitely a keeper!!

What a relief!!

I just had to share this with the group.
