Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: get money for your alpaca fiber!
Alpaca blanket project is widely supported in their area but I think they are only paying $5 per pound. For grade 1 and 2
Wow $25 a bale would not work for us. We pay $5.50 for 2nd cut. And out grain is locally made so very reasonable. It costs me $510 per year to feed each alpaca - dry lot. Shear $75, ivomec $16 year. So less then $600 per year.
Last year we sold raw blankets for $125 - we processed our seconds and thirds and sold then. More than paid for everything they needed.
I guess its different for different locations.
I can tell you people are selling me their thirds for $1.50-2 a pound, $3 for seconds. I've been buying about 100 pounds a month or so.
I just bought 150 pounds of blankets (higher microned and hairy) for $5 per pound.
It must be cost effective for some areas.
Agreed, every oz. is usable.
However, would you pay the same price on a blanket and 3rd.?
I just trying to understand how you can make money from raising alpacas for their fiber by selling a lb. of a blanket fiber for $6.00 /lb.
Here, in the west coast I pay $40 per alpaca for shearing, and $24 for a bale of hay.

And they dont have to be the "best" fleeces either! No memberships required. Alpacas do not have to be registered either! It really is ALL ABOUT THE FIBER, not blue ribbons! Time is running out to get your fleeces in- See details on the link below or ask me any questions! No, this is not spam or an offer to sell alpacas -it is to get your fleece out of storage, into hands of the buyers and money to your pocket! No skirting fleeces, no need to be present to sell -we do it for you and dont take any of your profit! Please, pass this along to everyone you know that has alpacas or anyone that has alpaca fiber sitting around. People want to buy your fiber!
