[AlpacaTalk] Re: Quick question about new fiber boys...

I'm thinking I'll call the vet and do a sample... LOL Maybe the
drive was worse for me than it was for them....:-) We have alot, I
mean TONS of lush, green grass here, and that's what I thought to,
but I just thought I'd ask... Can never be to careful with these
animals... As far as their grain goes, I honestly don't know what
they were given before we got them. We're using Dr. Evans Ultimate
E, we just switched over from Blue Seal about a month ago.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Quick question about new fiber boys...

It could be that they didn't get pellets at their previous home. Or
that they are a different formulation. A 5 hour drive isn't too long
and shouldn't have upset them too greatly but it will take some time to
acclimate to their new digs and feed. Green loose poop is often seen
when they suddenly have lush pasture available. Did they have pasture
at their old home or was it drylot conditions?

It's never a bad idea to have a fecal done just in case. Our vet
charges about $20 for one. That way at least you'll know what you're
dealing with.

[AlpacaTalk] Quick question about new fiber boys...

Hey guys!

New to the group, and already I have a question...LOL... Ok, so
here it goes... We just bought 2 fiber boys, a bay black and a
white. They are both about 4 years old. They both blend in nicely
with the rest of the herd. We had them vet checked before we brought
them home. We had them here a few days before we did anything with
them, as far as worming goes, due to their extensive travel. They
were in a trailer for about 5 hours for the drive, and we figured
they'd been traumatized enough on their trip without us poking them
with needles and shoving Panacure down their throats as soon as they
got to their new home. They've been here for a little less than a
week, and we've wormed them both. Now my question. They really
don't seem interested in eating grain at all. The bay black will
pick at it a little bit, and the white one wants nothing at all to do
with it. He ate a quarter cup one morning, and now wants nothing to
do with it at all. On top of that, the white guy has extremely loose
fecal matter, deep green, which I'm assuming is from eating a
different kind of hay/grass. We gave him some Kaolin for that, and
it seems to be helping. Some of the farms we've visited don't feed
their boys any grain at all, and I'm wondering if that's what's going
on here. Any comments/ things I should try???
