Re: [AlpacaTalk] How is everyone's week so far?

HI Heather!

Doing pretty good here! Just finished a covered area for my mini mares over their outside door.

Now on to cleaning out my manure vac. When it isnt caked up with alpaca poop, it SUCKS!!! Best $250 I ever spent!! :)

My herd will be sheared either the 6th or 7th of June.

I caught a flu last Friday, we sheared last weekend (50 alpacas!).
Our first two crias are on the ground and doing great, and looking
great, too! The weather has finally warmed up.

How's everything at your farm?

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Hartman Alpaca Sale in Nebraska

I encourage as many people to share, privately if necessary. (CC me
too!) :)

I've never been to one. Never consigned animals nor purchased from an
auction. Back "in the day" there was a very poor reputation amongst
alpaca breeders. I have heard many horror stories. Whether they are
all true is unknown.

Today, I see some large farms consigning some really nice animals,
which sell for heartbreaking prices. Some farms want to retire, some
are simply overstocked.

I do not like that NOTHING is online. You can't see the lots on a
website. There is very little information, if any, on the website. No
way to look up anything or do any research before the auction itself.
This is the 21st century. As much money as they make from this
auction, which is held more than once a year, they can surely afford
to hire someone to handle the website.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] How is everyone's week so far?

Hi Heather,

Interesting question, especially as we are really two locations.

On the farm side, late April was shearing and the California Classic. Between the classic and last week two new crias arrived, a beige female and a very dark brown to true black male. Dams and crias are doing well. Plus we have made our weekly trip to the farm (a 250 mile round trip) each weekend except for the classic.

On the home side, the health of the last of our four parents (she is 96+) continues to decline. I continue to maintain a listing or available properties in Oregon and Washington for when we are free to leave Silicon Valley and move our herd from agistment in California to our own place (where ever that may be).

Best,

RE: [AlpacaTalk] How is everyone's week so far?

All well with Elderberry Creek Alpacas and the Alpaca Blanket Project.

I am just finishing putting doors on the pole shed (aka the ABP sorting and storage area). It will be nice to finally get the last several thousand pounds of fiber out of the house. This is a good time, as we will be taking a trip around Oregon to pick up fiber and another around Washington.

We now have our daughter and grand-daughter living with us-wow!

Get well Heather.
