RE: [AlpacaTalk] Re: VAOBA show in October

Thanks, Sue!  Do you know if there is a particular “Theme” for the VAOBA show?  I would hate for them to appear as Dorothy and the Scarecrow if the theme is Bible Characters. LOL!!

Hi Laura

I have answers! :-)

Huacaya fleece length minimum for full fleece is 2". Suri minimum is 3". We will be putting in shorn classes on an as needed basis though so he will show regardless.

Suri classes at this show have small numbers typically. We are always working to increase numbers so there are no guarantees!

Costume:
1.
The Costume Class is a very entertaining class for the audience at a show. Exhibitors must actively participate in the development of a costume for themselves and the alpaca that follows the theme set forth by the show (optional, show may allow full creativity.)
2.
The class is judged on originality and complexity of costume, (does costume present some challenge to the alpaca to wear i.e. does alpaca accept dangling cloth or objects around its legs or wear leggings.)
3.
A short story to describe the characters the exhibitor and alpaca are representing is to be prepared by the exhibitor and handed into the ring steward prior to the class and will be read by the announcer while the exhibitor and their alpaca parade around the ring.

I don't think anyone was offended, and again, that's what this group is for, and always has been! We're here to help our fellow breeders.

I guess it is a fine line. A reply like yours, with a referral to someone else, is not advertising, and is possibly helpful to all, so is fine if it's public any day of the week.

A reply to one;'s own services IS advertising, and should be a private reply, or is allowed on Fridays.

And again, it was after much discussion with the members that this came about.

Hi Heather,
Want to clarify: did you just request that if I want to reply to someone asking for assistance on this chat group, I should not do so through the group - as I just did - that I should only reply to privately?

Hi Kathy,

Did you see the suggestion someone made to you on another chat site?  It was for a farm in NJ.  Found it, the posting said:  Give Meadowgate Farms a shot.  They are located in Lawrenceville, NJ.  They have both suri and huacaya alpaca.  The website with phone number and info on the farm: http://www.meadowgatefarmalpacas.com/

No problem, even if it is not a Friday! We are here to help our fellow breeders. I do hope that someone can give you a lead, or perhaps has space to agist in your locale. I believe we all need to really help each other right now.

And frankly, I'm surprised about the remark regarding the "marketing" rules... Really?

THIS group has always been about supporting our fellow members, since the day it was founded.

But it is not marketing. I am asking for a referral. That is networking. Sorry, but I am actually in a bind because the person with whom I board is presenting me with a problem situation and I need help. I apologize is I seem to be marketing. I am just asking for some community support.

Marketing is allowed on AlpacaTalk on Fridays, which it is today. :)

But regarding marketing, a vote was taken of the members and a vast majority did not want to have advertising on the group all day everyday. Besides, there are already good marketing groups and websites designed just for that. But, it was also agreed that one day a week would be acceptable.
