Hey everyone,
Here in
We lost power on Saturday- that was a first for us and we never really considered just how hard it would be to water the animals when their heated buckets quit working, the well pump quit because of no power, too. I have a gas stove and luckily, could melt snow to use the water for flushing toilets. We actually emptied five five gallon buckets of snow into the bathtub to be used for flushing.
My husband took every water container we had to a friend’s house who had a generator and we brought back 15+ gallons to water the alpacas, goats and chickens. Carrying it through the snow was NOT FUN.
The animals are alright and even the chickens are laying eggs ……which surprised me since their lights were off from Saturday til Tuesday. The Pyrs are loving the snow. That heavy thick coat came in handy! Maybe I will stick with Pyrs and just trim them down and keep bellies bare in the summer.
I am very new to suris and our one little boy, Harvey, is sporting his brand new, bright orange cria coat, made by Patty! I don’t know if he needed it or not but it sure makes me feel better that he has it on!
Today is shovel day and dh is plowing the driveway and lane. We have about a mile and a half of snow to move in order to get off this farm.
Btw, we ARE getting a snow blower. I don’t know what we would have done without the Kubota tractor or the six wheeler.
Keep your fingers crossed for sunshine --- I know the melting snow will create mud but I am tired of freezing!
Btw, does anyone know if Meningeal worms die in the freeze? Mine have missed their Feb Ivomec shots.
