roving.

Holiday Specials!

Basic washing/carding-5% off 15-25 pounds, or 10% off 25 pounds or more!

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Digest Number 467

Hi Shere,

The important thing to remember is that 50% of alpacas exposed are never having any symptoms. Then 40% are only having mild head cold symptoms.

It is much easier for someone that does not have any alpacas. If you purchase them from one farm you do not have to worry about quarantine. I would not worry about purchasing alpacas from a good farm. Be sure that they are willing to provide you long term mentoring. That in my opinion is always a must. It is also good to know where the nearest good Camelid vet is, and to speak to him/her before bringing your animals¢ home.

I am not a vet, but I have been collecting the statistics.

General alpaca discussion groupHi all,

I have been following all of the posts about the virus/Snots that is killing alpacas. My question is... how safe is it to BUY alpacas now if you re just getting started? I would appreciate hearing from some vet/medical types if possible :)

We live in NY and I havent seen any cases marked on the map here. But what can I do to make our first purchases safer?

Thanks so much

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Digest Number 467

Hi Shere,

You could add a clause to your contract or you could take out an insurance policy for just a few months. I was just contacted by some folks in our area that have not had any alpacas move on or off their farm for months who now have this.

I believe that once the flies or mosquitoes are knocked down, we might find that this will slow down, at least in this region.

To answer your question, it would not keep me from buying alpacas, attending shows, or sending animals for breeding.
