Re: [AlpacaTalk] Dosing for worms and coccidia @ the same time

PS, Yes we've had fecals done on a few animals per pasture (the ploppy
ones) and per our vet's advice this is the course of action we're
taking. Granted, our coccidia situation isn't as bad as you all have
had in Washington, for some reason.

My little girl Kallista had "a full load" of coccidia according to my
vet, and the Albon fixed her right up. Her fecal showed no worm eggs,
probably due to her being wormed the week before. We followed the Albon
treatments with daily doses of Probios, and her poops are nice and
perfect. She passed her vet check-in and went on to win a 4th at HOTV
against all full Peruvians in her class, and she didn't place last in
her class!

We're also worming and treating those with symptoms for coccidia with
Albon. 3 days with safeguard, 2x horse dose, and Albon 2cc/10 lbs body
weight, for 5 days. And yes, we are treating concurrently if necessary.
Actually what we're doing is working through the herd, worming each
pasture for 3 days, and treating for coccidia for the ones who need
that, at the same time.

This year is really hard on those who have to live outdoors in the PNW!

Best of luck to you, Toni, and to everyone battling this!

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: Fwd: Current status of group

Hi Jim,
My only response to your post is that you have to be careful not to throw the baby out with bath water. The vast majority of posts on Alpacasite are very helpful and constructive. Lots of information is exchanged in a generous and caring manner. Every once in a while the harmony is disrupted, but it usually doesn't last very long. Evidently there are over 3000 members there, and if 5 or 6 folks have a disagreement or heated debate, I guess I think that is something to expect, but not to dwell on, as the rest of the information is so valuable.

I may be the exception, but dont find anything wrong with the Rick ' bashing' or any of the other names mentioned and the groups associated with same.

The reason being, those people and the related groups are ones that I would NOT want to join. The general feeling I get is that those kinds of people are just Donkey Holes. By talking about them, it is like a PSA, letting those that hadnt even heard of the group, like me, know not to bother joining.

Hey Heidi,

I know that you had one hell of a winter with coccidia....like I did. I almost lost one of my cria. I know that you lost one. Can you tell me your story of this winter? My pasture is on the down hill side of the farm. (I really don't have a choice to move them casue I rent the space.) Did you use Marquis...albon? What is the opinion of your vet and who are you using? Tahoma Vet or Dr. Jack.

You and I are only about 30 mins away from each other and I'd love to know what happened this winter if you are willing to share.

Thanks for sending me the conformation. Diane e-mailed me back and recommended to break up the tx. As it sits right now the worm load is greater than the coccidia.

Scolding you?? Hardly.? As Heather mentioned, we are all adults, we can treat each other with respect, and as Toni mentioned, we can appreciate and deal with our differenced like adults (thats a bit of a paraphrase, but was what I got out of her post).? And as I said in the below quote, I should have kept my mouth shut.? The thing that made me jump in on this subject was the bashing part, not the who part.? I have nothing against Rick, but its not like we have dinner every week either.? Bash anyone, and I'm likely to jump in and tell you it makes you look bad.I think I have mentioned several times in the last 3 days that I haven't been on AS for a long time - I wasn't even aware of the month long moderator thing.? I started scouting around on Wednesday or Thursday last week because when I tried to log on I got a "no activity in the last 7 days" message, and was unable to search the archives.? That is about all I do with AS now, and scan the digest to see if there are any ALPACA RELATED subjects being discussed.? Like worms and e-coli, which I had to treat for.? Heidi,

First, this site is supposed to be about ANYTHING in
the alpaca industry and its participants and not have

jerk or saying things we shouldn't. That is human
nature. Some people are more passionate than others
and some wake up on the wrong side of the bed.

We have a show that we are attending this weekend so
we have not been sitting in front of the computer.
Other people have things to do and are not watching
the posts roll in on the screen. It may take a day or
more for a response. Just because a post is answered
the next day or more doesn't mean that it is being
dragged on and on. It just means that they have other
things to do and are responding to posts when they
have the chance.
