[AlpacaTalk] Re: cria with low pasterns

We had a premature alpaca cria born this spring with low pasterns. I found conflicting advice as to how to handle this. I read that they can injure their tendons by too much activity. Others say they need the activity to strengthen the legs.

She was so knock-kneed that she couldn't take more than a few steps without falling over so there wasn't much running going on. We compromised by keeping her and mom in a small paddock area adjacent to their stall for several days, allowing her out in the pasture only with close supervision.

Each day we could see improvement and on the third day she was good to go with the herd.

[AlpacaTalk] Bear Sale!

That's right- has nothing to do with alpacas, we're selling the bear who's been visiting- - - CHEAP!!!

Great possibilities here!  Lady G. had a stunning white female that we lost at just under a year to impaction... :(( but she was an excellent momma with loads of milk just like her dam and this female was truly amazing.

Or, how about a lovely caramel color?
Hally- Boo 10/31/01- ARI # 847086  bred to Peruvian Guellermo- light fawn, also due in October!!  Easy birther, plenty of milk and self weans.  Hally is a lovely female and will quickly become one of your foundation females.

We haven't bred either of these girls every year- only because we have needed to stay small in the last few years.  Take advantage of this offer- just think of the new babies you could have in your pastures shortly!
