Re: [AlpacaTalk] Using Lumex Syringe

Hi Nancy, Do you have the extender for the syringe? It should come
with metal tube that has a slight bend in it. Then you put it in the
corner of the mouth with the tip near the back of the tougue.......liquid goes in
easy.

Here's a pic of one at PBS:

[AlpacaTalk] Using Lumex Syringe

I have a question about using this syringe. I have to give my alpaca 20cc of a drench each day. When I used this for the first time tonight most of the liquid came back out of her mouth. What is the best way to get her to take this? Should I use one side of the mouth as opposed to the other? Any ideas would be appreciated.

[AlpacaTalk] teeth

hi - here's another thought about visible teeth - i bought a 6 month old male who looked absolutely perfect - by 9 months old his teeth protruded and there appeared to be a widening gap in the upper lip - one of our girls had prominent "baby teeth" that came out when she was about 2 1/2 so i wasn't concerned about this boy's teeth right away - But as he got older i became very concerned, as he seemed to have a very odd mouth - to make a long story short, i called the man i'd bought him from and explained the situation and my concerns - he asked me to bring my boy back to his farm - he called in a very knowledgable alpaca vet who examined my boy and said "nothing to worry about - nothing wrong" - his bite is in perfect alignment - his teeth did not need trimming - he said some alpaca's are born with a perpetual smile. My boy is two years old now, and sometimes he has his "bugs bunny smile" and sometimes he doesn't -

Has anyone else ever run into this?

[AlpacaTalk] Re: Teeth obvious

Hi there - thanks for your reply - she is not even two years old - can
animals this young need a tooth trim? I thought only older ones
needed trimmed.
Thanks
Mandy

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Teeth obvious

I'm wondering if she needs a tooth trim. Often when the teeth are too
long.....you can see them.
