Re: [AlpacaTalk] marketing book

Hi Amanda,

Imagine how it would feel if your rural business was wildly successful!

Welcome to the newsletter, Growing Your Rural Business! Our mission statement is
Making Business Fun
Making Marketing Manageable
Making Rural Living More Satisfying

Here's the question where we start: "What do successful people/businesses do that others do not?" Let's discover what those strategies are and use them!

I think you'll be very pleased with the information I have planned. You'll get tools and tactics for making your rural business grow! To the degree you use these strategies and tools, you'll see a difference in your business. That's my guarantee.

Each week you'll get a short article (500 words, more or less) about strategies for success. They'll often come to you in units—more than one article per subject They'll cover ideas and tools that will help you grow your business. Some will be about marketing, some will be about other business/life tools. I'm always open to suggestions on subject matter!

The articles are not found in either of my books. Some of the information is from my workshops, some from my own 30+ years of business experience and some from my on-going research. There will be some overlap in subject matter from the books, but covered in a different way or more in depth.

I want to make this newsletter is the best investment you ever made. I appreciate feedback. Please give me feedback about how I'm doing. Any time. On a scale of 1-10, how clear is the information, how useful is the information. If it isn't a 10, what would it take to make it a 10?

If you have not already done so, please email me with the following information:
The email address you want the newsletter to go to.
Where you're located,
What you sell.
How long you've been doing it,
What information you want to see.

Starts on October first. See you then!

My very best wishes for an outrageously successful life beyond the sidewalk.

Ellie

[AlpacaTalk] marketing book

We've been asked not to sell things on this list, so let me just say I'm the author of the book Wendy Edwards mentioned: ("I ordered a farm marketing book that was mentioned on this website, and have found it to be extremely informative.")

So if you want more info, write to me off list.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] marketing

Yes we would be interested thanks.

Wendy Edwards <wendy.edwards@shaw.ca> wrote: hi - i'd like to get this discussion going, as marketing is a focus for all of us. We have found ourselves in the position where money is going out, all the time, but not much coming in - We've only been alpaca farmers for a year and i was told it takes three years to "make money", but in the meantime the bills are piling up.

I ordered a farm marketing book that was mentioned on this website, and have found it to be extremely informative. We have just spent three days at a local Fall Fair . It is the first time i've ever done anything like this. I followed some of the suggestions in the book and our exhibit was outstandingly popular. We took one of our girls who is really cute and sociable and she was the hit of the "Old McDonalds Farm" - i am not a salesperson but i was able to put together an effective display that appealed to different market groups.

To make a long story shorter, I think the key here is exposure - we gave out over 150 of our business cards, sold two of our males, and lots of our fiber. One woman even bought the big basket of rosemary i had brought as a decoration. I realized i am deep-down reluctant to part with our animals as i put heart and soul into looking after them, especially the crias. This attitude has not encouraged sales in the past.
We have had hoards of people ask if they can come over to see our farm and talk about alpacas - (now i have to rush around and clean up to make us presentable).

I have volunteered to take over the management of "McDonalds Farm" for next years fair and i will make sure our alpacas have the nice big paddock. Both local news papers have asked if they can write an article on our alpaca farm, with pictures. Of course i said yes

So many people were totally surprised to find out our farm is right here in the valley that i realized my previous advertising (or lack of) hasn't been very effective.

I can share the ideas that worked best for our exhibit if anyone is interested.

We've been raising alpacas for about 5 years. We volunteered at an

connected to alpacas; breeding(of course)including mobile breeding,
transportation(on a limited basis), toenails, ultrasound(we have our own
