Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: Tamanu oil

Heather:  Thanks for your post about tx for mites.   I've battled those buggers for TWO years now, using the Ivomec injectable protocols, and can't say it did a thing.   I'm giving your ideas a try.   I also agree that some alpacas are much more adversely effected with great fiber loss and others seem to have very little loss.  I've used both the "witches brew" and the NuStock with very little regrowth.   I'm really thrilled to learn about Tamanu Oil, as I'm sure a couple of these gals have follicle damage, especially down their neck.  It would be so wonderful to see them "recovered"  (pun intended).

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: skin ointment

Yes, that's what I mean, the place I used to work has 2oz for $6.75,
4 oz for $11.50, 8 oz for $20, 16 oz for $36! One gallon is $254.

I did see another online retailer who had a gallon for $220, but not
many people need such a large quantity.

For serious skin regeneration needs, like our girl, I use it
straight. I would say if you want fast results, that's the thing to do!

You can also get it from suppliers for the handmade bath and body industry
(my other business). It is expensive $6-$8 an ounce but a very little of
Tamanu goes a long way, I only use it at a rate of 3%-5% in lotion/soap/salve
preparations. Email me privately and I can give you a list of suppliers who
carry it.

A relatively inexpensive and very effective topical skin treatment is to use
tubes of mastitis treatment, any brand, tho I like the one that contains
penicillin for skins stuff. Most are made with an innocuous oil (sesame in one
if I recall) and an antibiotic.
