Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: Blood Draws

Thanks, Tracey - does anyone know what color tube is needed for the
pregnancy/progesterone test? I have to pick some up tomorrow, I think I will
call my vet first. Thanks!

I know for the BVD you need the purple top tubes. If you have a tractor supply they may have them. IF not a local vet may give you some, they should have them on hand.
I am in Michigan so I send my samples here.

RE: [AlpacaTalk] Dog Attack, any advice on Suri alpacas as replacements?

Hi Susan,

I'm guessing that they are the result of crossing some f-2's.a 3d
generation?

As you might figure out..they also can have a huacaya down the
generations.that is why a huacaya sometimes pops up from two pedigrees that
have never had one so far as the American genealogy reports.it is always a
recessive, lurking out there, waiting to find another carrier of the
recessive gene.and then there is the old "one in four" chance of the
recessive gene showing!

Allison - thanks SO much for explaining that, it was fantastic. Now I'm
curious - so then what are F-3 Suris?

[AlpacaTalk] Goat Colostrum

Since I began in livestock with dairy goats 40 years ago, I have many contacts there.  I am collecting a list of clean goat herds who have some colostrum available. Kidding season is mostly over, but there is a little still available.   If you need some or know someone who does, let me know, I'll put you in touch with someone who has it.
