[AlpacaTalk] AlpacaWatch & Virus Update
Over the past 24 hours we have received a few new reports and several
updates. There have been some reports of deaths due to the ARS Virus,
but they have not been from the owners. This means they have not been
recorded. Here are what the currently numbers look like.
Here are the current numbers:
Total herd size reported: 4668
Total number reported infected: 2385
Total number of deaths reported: 49 from owners and 6+ from
vets/universities
Reports of infections: 37 States
Reports of deaths: 21 States
Reporting farms: 152
Keep the reports coming in! As I said I have heard quite a few farms
that are not reporting, and a number of deaths not reported. Please
speak to alpaca/llama farms in your area that you know have had
infections and/or deaths. If things do continue to taper off we may be
seeing the end of the virus for this year.
AlpacaWatch is continuing to more forward. Our membership is now up to
682. Today I set-up the AlpacaWatch Yahoo list. I encourage all of our
members to join. The membership to the list is for AlpacaWatch members.
The list will allow members to discuss health and safety issues that may
affect their herds.
This site is not meant to replace other list, such as AlpacaSite or
AlpacaTalkĀ
Issues such as breeding, color, LGD, geneticsĀ
and
other such topics fit best in to these forums. I'm sure there will
be times when the AlpacaWacth list is quite, and other times when it
will be very active. It is meant to be a smaller close-knit group of
alpaca owners and veterinarians.
Thank you for your support, and team work!
Cheers,
Janet Morrow
