Re: [AlpacaTalk] herbal wormers

The herbal wormer "discussions" have been going on--pro and con--in the ruminant world for decades.  If you're going to use it, do fecal testing so you know if it works.  If you don't test, you can claim anything but it doesn't mean much without the tests.

Here are the herbal wormer posts I was referring to. They don't give a
website and I haven't had time yet to search for it. If you find, will
you post to the list?
Thanks, Janice

once a week (kids get 1/2 t. starting at 2 mo. or when I give them
cocidiosis med.)mixed with small amount of molasses made into balls, and
my stock have been doing great on it. I bought it from Hoegger Supply. I
love it, takes the worry out of when to worm or what to worm with, and
it lasts forever. Well worth the money.

I do something similar, but I use Molly's blend. I don't do the dosage
balls, just never taken the time to make them. I either feed it in their
grain once a week, or drench them with a slurry of the herbs and water.
Works great. One whether loves his so much, he'll suck the slurry right
out of the syringe. Don't have to hold him or anything. Well, okay, have
to hold him BACK while I blend it up, he's too antsy to get it in!

My goats have taken up the glossiest, softest coats, brightest color,
hard hooves, sweetest milk since while on this program. ALL of the goat
I have now came to me in very poor condition, and have just bloomed
after being dewormed with this stuff, and put on a regular program with
it.>>>>

I beg to differ. I did have one goat come in here with lung worm a few
years back. Fecal count showed positive. I never dewormed him with
anything else but my herbs. Cleared him up, and the others never had a
problem.>>>>>>

[AlpacaTalk] RE: Brandie

<<<<It sounds to me like your black boy may have choked himself out,
that is why he dropped when he stopped. It is also a very good idea to
put a halter on when cleaning his feet, and tied to something very
sturdy!! :) It might help to keep one of the others close by, untill he
is done.>>>>

Oh trust me, we had a *very* serious talk about NEVER putting a rope
around *any* animals neck EVER. I learned how to make a make shift
halter from a lead rope from Marty McGee, but even that is not good
enough for feet cleaning - especially with this boy!
Plus about what to tie him up to - never something that he can drag away!
PLUS the fact that he should be done FIRST as he is so stubborn and
determined to have his way AND loves to be out. This is the boy that
learned how to open the gate no matter what we put on it, including
chains. Finally had to put in a t-post in front of the gate so it only
opens in lol, and a chain with a clip. Got really tired of getting home
after dark only to find this boy out grazing in the yard and then having
to chase him down, late and dark, and drag him against his will back to
his pasture. So he gets done first now if they are going to be
released. My poor dd was in tears she was so so scared.

Janice, just grateful he is ok

Janice, with fingers crossed this will help with the fly problem around

Sounds great! I have recently been introduced to needle felting and am
looking forward to getting caught up with other stuff so I can tackle a
new hobby with a clear conscious :-).

Warmly, Janice in NW GA, having just decided this week to get a bee
hive...so will have a new livestock animal to enjoy without the time and
expense required to keep goats :-).
