Re: [AlpacaTalk] guard llamas

I would hold off then on the llama as they will overeat and get fat because the alpacas are usually free-fed.  We tried making a creep bar so our llama wouldn't get into the alpaca's hay and could be fed separately, but she figured out how to do the limbo under it no matter what we did, including a board at the bottom.  They are little piggies and if they get too fat, their pasterns will break down.

Free Alpacas Newsletter- How to Profit from Alpaca Farming

Re: [AlpacaTalk] guard llamas

I would love to have a llama with our alpacas someday. But we have a
small pasture, only about 0.8 acres. Right now we have three boys on
it and eventually plan to expand up to about five in a couple of
years, but I'm guess if we put a llama in there we probably can only
have the three boys and a llama. Do they eat more than an alpaca eats?
I'm guessing yes since they're bigger.
