Magnolia May is doing well.  I asked my dh to weigh her last night and he said she weighed 18.5 – her birth weight was 17.0 a week ago and she has gained back her loss down to 16.2 (lowest wt) I was thrilled.  She weighed 17.2 Sunday pm.

Then I asked him, "Did you take off her coat?"…………duh…………"no"………..

That's okay, we weighed her tonight (without her coat) and she weighs 18.0 which means she is gaining………not dramatically, but gaining.  We are keeping a close eye on her weight and making sure mom is getting extra groceries for her.  I think a gain of .8 in two days isn't too bad.  I am thankful it is going in the right direction!

Hi Tina!

The cria here is doing just fine.  He's gaining weight, about 1/2 pound a day or so, peeing & pooping really good, gets a bottle about every 2 to 2 1/2 hours.  Still only taking about 2 1/2 to 3 ounces at a time, but I'm now getting up once thru the night to feed him and that feeding is his largest.  About 3 1/2 ounces.   He's with the herd all day long until night fall.  All I do is run back-n-forth all day long!  He's interacting with the rest of the herd now.  I have two older crias, one is two months and the other is a month old, and they are now paying some attention to this cria.  Mom still has nothing to do with her cria.  She will occasionally come over to him, cluck a few times and walk off.  She had me worried for a couple days doing strange things like carrying a mouthful of grass in her mouth for hours.  She expelled something the other day - must have been pretty small as I could not find anything in the pasture, but she had blood smeared across her rear so I know she did something.  So my vet has had me put her on an antibiotic.  Right now I'd say this little guy has a good chance of making it!  My boarder has told me she will sign him over to me for my compensation.  I've told her I will think about it.  If he makes it thru the 1st month then I will have him signed over to me.  He is a Full Peruvian and is either a Mahogany Prince grandson or an Accoyo Jackpot great grandson.  And his mom is a Coal Man daughter so he has excellent bloodlines behind him.  I guess I need to think of a name for him.  I can't keep calling him my little stinker.  :o)

Thanks for asking about him!
