[AlpacaTalk] NY 100

 

I am happy to advise everyone that the "NY 100" arrived yesterday! We had 1 loss at he end of the journey. The rest of the boys went right for the hay and water. Imagine 198 pairs of eyes looking around at the fresh hay! A few actually took a quick dust bath! They were all alert, many had fiber to the ground, quite a few with some large bald patches. 1 llama has an abscess and 1 llama has 1/2 an ear missing -not sure why yet. They all ate and settled in quite nicely. I will keep everyone updated!!

Thanks DeDe, I'll see if my feed store can order from them.

Heather, I feed beet pulp just because we were already mixing it for the
horses and a while back folks here were talking about giving it to their
alpacas so I started giving it to them as well. I use it mainly as a
carrier to keep the minerals from falling to the bottom of the tray and
being left. But I am rethinking what I am feeding, trying to simplify
and lower expenses as well, so planning to get away from feeding pellets
at all which would also do away with the beet pulp. Tho I like the idea
of a warm mash for cold winter mornings. I also give the beet pulp to
my dogs and it seems to help their stool a good bit.
