[AlpacaTalk] AOBA control

I watched with mild interest all of the posts going around about AOBA and their dealings with the For-Profit subsidiary. I find it to be rather suspect myself. I see the sudden announcement that the show division is being changed, without any input from the membership, again, very suspect in my opinion. Then I get an email from another farm asking about a site that my website links to that working to provide AOBA show results in a much more searchable manner. The site is: www.alpacalist.com. If you do check it out, it is clearly marked that AOBA wants to control the show results as well, and they were forced to shut down.

AOBA certainly doesn't feel like it's being a small farm friendly and benefit to the whole alpaca industry in my opinion. I can see why they would need to set up a for profit side, since they aren't going to be able to qualify as a non-profit entity for much longer, in my opinion!

I have not renewed my membership for this year as I have been waiting to see what else would come about from the changes. So far, I haven't seen anything that would encourage me to renew either. Everything so far has done the just the opposite.

If I had more time and resources, I would seriously consider starting a competing entity that would be more accountable to the small farms. I still have to work to support my farm like many of the rest of the people on this list, but I think I am getting closer to the goal of being a full time alpaca rancher.

Thanks for you listening to this rant. I am just frustrated with AOBA and had to finally speak up somewhere.
