[AlpacaTalk] Health Insurance

You may want to check with your local chamber of commerce. Some chanbers have a group policy for those who are self employed. I know in Massachusetts where I was before the chamber did have it but here in Kentucky they had looked into it but it never materialized. Each chamber is different also within the states.

[AlpacaTalk] Insurance

Hi,

As we're doing our research and getting ready to jump in sometime in 2006,
we're trying to figure out what we can....

Is there any co-op or anything like that for health insurance for alpaca
farmers? How do those of you who have your alpacas as your only or main
business insure yourselves?

We could get private insurance, but hubby and I both kind of have
pre-existing conditions...though neither of us have had trouble in at least 2 years.
This could make insurance for our family incredibly high unless we find a
group to get into.

Thanks!
Suzanne

[AlpacaTalk] Re: Insurance

Hi Suzanne,

I'll be anxiously watching for replies to your post!!! My BF and I
are in the same situation that you are...ready to make the 'big jump'
in 2006, yet worried about health insurance coverage/costs for the
same reasons you are.

I've written to NASE (National Association for the Self-Employed)
because they offer various health insurance products to small biz
members. IF the info comes in the next week or so, I'll be sure to
post some details. Their website offered minimal pricing info, other
than membership costs.

There have to be many folks in the same boat...what does everyone do
to affordably cover their healthcare needs?

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: Insurance

Lisa,

I do know from past experience with DH going independent in his job was that
HIPPA laws afford for people with pre-existing conditions to be insured.
That's not the hurdle...it's how the heck will we afford it? Like you, I'll
bet...

I look forward to hearing what you find out...

Suzanne
