Re: [AlpacaTalk] aborted twins - 96 days gestation

Ya, three months isn't a big deal, except that fall can be very sketchy
with weather in Oregon. Heck, summer can be sketchy! Two years ago we
had a girl born on June 7th during very cold wind and sleet! Or
whatever that little bb size snow-ball/ice stuff is called...

But the dam appears to be just fine. That early in pregnancy, if it's
lost, they don't appear to have any concern over losing it... so that's
something I don't have to worry about, at least. Now it's back to
deciding which sire I want to breed her to! The sire of the lost twins
is still a very good choice, but so are about 10 others here on the
farm! Argh! Too many choices!

Heather

Oh, PS about the moving thing... no matter what, that's not in the near
future. I'm too tired when at the computer to figure the system out.
Heck, I'm having trouble with the blog stuff! (Another one of those
features at Network Solutions I thought I'd try out.)

[AlpacaTalk] aborted twins - 96 days gestation

Hey everyone! My new true black girl who was bred to Scirocco aborted
twins today. Sucks, lost 3 months and now if I re-breed this year, I'll
have a fall cria next year, something I prefer to avoid. I like spring
and summer births here in always cold and rainy Oregon! One fetus was
clearly male and the other couldn't really tell because it had been
stepped on in the stall. Except for being stepped on and a bit
dismembered, both fetuses appeared to be normal. So cute and tiny!

[AlpacaTalk] Re: Re: Move Group?

So far I'm hearing we mostly like it the way it is. :) I like getting
posts via email, too, and I rarely log into the web area either unless
I have some administrative thing to do.

That's a great idea about making the AlpacaTalk-Classifieds site as
well.

As far as the board I set up on my own website, well, I haven't quite
figured the thing out yet. I don't even know how users register
themselves! So that needs to be sorted out if anything can happen there
at all. Hehe. Not a good board if no one can join!

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Digest Number 705

I'm not sure what comment you're referring to. I said that when you
read other discussion groups, you see other members' web addresses
(URLs). Of course, provided they put them in their signature block.

On Yahoo groups, owners/moderators can see every member's email address
in the membership listing. I have AlpacaTalk set so that members may
hide their email addresses, even from moderators, but those members can
only post via the web interface, not via email. That is how Yahoo set
up that feature.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] RE: Move Group?

I use gmail to receive all my Yahoo group mail. gmail combines all emails
with the same subject into ONE email in your inbox. I love it, I can read
the entire thread, with one click. Likewise, I can delete any threads I'm
not interested in, with one click.

I don't ever participate in message boards. I've joined a couple in the
past, but don't/won't in the future.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: Move Group

Hi!
As a lurker, I agree with the below except to add that I would like to
see what you are
all selling and what kind of websites you have.
So may I suggest, as with many other groups, to have a hyphenated
group such as
AlpacaTalk-classifieds@yahoogroups.com.
Only registered alpacatalk people can post there and if you choose,
you may subscribe,
or not.

BTW - I am only lurking as I am new, and still trying to figure out
the mood of the group.
I feel I am in the minority with only 2 rescued alpacas, but still
want to learn all I can about
them.

[AlpacaTalk] Re: Move Group

I am against the idea. I like the digest I receive in my email once a day. I will not log on to a farm site for forums. Behind the times or not, this is what I like and if it goes away, well, I for one won't follow.

I don't want classifieds. I get enough junk mail from people already trying to sell me animals and products I am not interested in. There are enough places for me to advertise that I can't keep up with them all already. I won't advertise on someone else's farm site. Helping them get higher Google ratings than my own site.

I am not interested in more features. I get one email a day, I read it, and I respond to the very few items that are interesting to me. I am not saying that the discussion isn't interesting and valuable to others. Just my needs are different from other peoples needs. This forum fits my needs.

Thanks for asking...if this goes away, I will be sad to see it go, but as I stated above, I will not follow.

[AlpacaTalk] RE: Move Group?

I agree that another method will make it easier to follow the topics, and I
am sure there are lots of other venues, the thing I like most about this
style is that it all comes via email. I can just delete the topics I am not
interested in, and can skim through the emails quickly.

I don't like having to go to a board and browse through tons of topics. It
simply takes too long so I tend not to do it. And the boards get so big you
simply can't keep up with all the info.

If there is a method where you can have the option to still get emails on
all the threads, that would be my preference.

Of course, I am very new, but its something to think about.

How would everyone feel about moving the group to a more functional forum
venue? The Yahoo groups are really behind the times, they haven't grown with
the discussion group evolution, but are mired in the old list-serve/bulletin
board days. It can be difficult to follow threads on this type of discussion
group, and I find it pretty annoying a lot of the time.I'm sure many users
are lurkers or not even active at all, but I'd like to know if you would be
interested in moving the group top a better, more modern site? I ask because
I am exploring the tools at Network Solutions, where my farm website is

as a lot of other things I need to look into and learn about!Let me know
