Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: Very strange

Hi Dar,
So for, January has been awful! I acknowledge that our weather
conditions aren't nearly as severe as most others, but for us, it's
quite
cold and miserable. :)

I don't know about your group, but I do have the ability to edit
member settings. Not under the group management, but under the
"Members" area. And thanks for the idea about putting a support
question to Yahoo Groups, I just completed it.

Best wishes,
Heather

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Very strange

Well thanks for that very kind and helpful suggestion. But, there are
times (very infrequently to be sure) that I do read posts on that
group, and I do have the ability to email responses to members
privately. That group is set so that only members can read posts.
AlpacaTalk is set so that anyone can read posts, but only members can
post.

Warmest regards,
Heather

Hi Heather, How is your January going?

I can't speak for what goes on at Alpacasite, but as a mod for another large yahoo group I
can tell you that this is an ongoing issue. People who set to digest get switched to web,
web people get set to individual emails, etc. It is a quirky glitch that comes and goes with
Yahoo. Then the mod has to deal with the email that will come from the member go in
and register the problem. I can't go in and change anyone's settings. I would have to know
their passwords to change the settings. I promise you, (my group only has 1200 members)
it's enough hassle going in and trying to deal with the myriad ways things get screwed up
everytime a Yahoo tech sneezes. : )

I wanted to mention this back when the whole Who OWNS Alpacasite debate was going on.

The person who has to deal with 35 bounced email notifications, 10 complaints of status
change, 14 membership requests, spambot requests, 12 emails complaining about one
aspect or another of the group and 6 personal emails questioning his integrity/sanity/
morality/sexuality etc. all before breakfast, may not own the group, but certainly they have
defacto leadership, responsibility and therefore authority.

I'd be more inclined to think your experiences were the result of the abovementioned
random glitches unless I had evidence to the contrary. But then I am kind of an optimist
that way. : )

Keep warm, Keep safe, and we'll get through this winter together, no?

Heather,

Your problem is easily resolved.

Since you don't want to receive Alpacasite emails, and you never visit the web site, simply unsubscribe to Alpaasite. Problem solved!

I have an interesting thing constantly happening to my settings over at
AlpacaSite. Although I have my membership in that group set to "Web
Only" which means I receive NO emails from that group (and I also
actually never visit the web site either), every week or so somehow my
settings are changed to individual emails. Odd. I wonder who has the
ability to change my settings besides me? The moderator and/or group
owner? I think that's about it. So that begs the question: Why?
Especially when i am perma-moderated so I can't even post.
