Re: [AlpacaTalk] Alpaca Treats

Jim,

Dave did not ask me a question. What he said was this: "Many experts would disagree with your contention that humans are herbivores.

I informed him that I was not the person who made that contention. Because I never said that. But, looking at our teeth, one might come to that conclusion. However we also know that humans eat meat.

And I'm not silencing anyone, but am stating facts. I am looking stuff up about dogs and their natural diets. And I never said I was feeding a dog a vegan diet. Not even once did I imply that. I don't even own a dog. There. I've said it. I don't have a dog. I have no dog to feed any type of diet. I made a treat, which I did my best to NOT include anything that is known, or assumed, to cause allergies and digestive and skin conditions in pets. It happened to be vegan.

Really. I find the needling very tiresome. Does anyone else?

Have you got a question for me, Jim, or do you just want to spend your time accusing me of censoring some more?

Hi Dave,

First of all, I didn't make that contention. What's your problem? And everything I have read about dogs says that they are omnivores. If you're basing your determination of what an animal eats based on dentition, then I'm sure you'd also say that bears are strict carnivores, and we all know their diet consists largely of nuts and berries, of course salmon with they're running , and lots of pic-a-nic baskets. To assert that their diet is or should be strictly raw meat is false. CErtainly, they have retained those features because they still do hunt and eat fresh meat.

And if you don't want to feed your alpacas treats, fine. Don't. My original response was to someone who does want to feed occasional treats.

I guess the pissing match at alpaca politics is getting boring, someone had to bring some contention over here.

I don't see any reason why an alpaca would not like veggies, their being herbivores.  When the discussion comes up annually, I have to laugh at all of the different treats alpaca owners feed their alpacas, though.  Mine do very well on grass and hay---well tested out, supplemented with some of the minerals in which our environment is deficient, here in the Northeast.
