Re: [AlpacaTalk] 326 day preemie born yesterday morning

I'm so glad to hear your girl is doing well. I'll tell you, after the
week my 1 day old spent at OSU last year, I weighed her every day for 2
or 3 months, then 2 or 3 times a week for another couple of months...
at least she learned how to lead and load well from it! :)

I hope to see pics of your baby soon! Do keep us posted!

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: Fwd: Current status of group

Heidi,

First, this site is supposed to be about ANYTHING in
the alpaca industry and its participants and not have
topics or people be censored to appease certain
persons. Please stop scolding us.

The other thing is that I was not present on AS
because I long ago got sick of it. I did not see the
fall out with Rick and am wondering what happened. You
may have been reading all the posts on AS, and that is
fine, but I didn't, so what is old news to you, may
not be for the rest of us.

In my last post, I actually stuck up for him in my own
way, trying to say that most of us are guilty as some
point or another (and more times than that) of being a
jerk or saying things we shouldn't. That is human
nature. Some people are more passionate than others
and some wake up on the wrong side of the bed.

We have a show that we are attending this weekend so
we have not been sitting in front of the computer.
Other people have things to do and are not watching
the posts roll in on the screen. It may take a day or
more for a response. Just because a post is answered
the next day or more doesn't mean that it is being
dragged on and on. It just means that they have other
things to do and are responding to posts when they
have the chance.

We had a 326 day (3 week) preemie born this morning, of course a female out
of our best dam. Mom has milk, I milked her and got 1 oz into cria, but
after 3 hours she hasn't tried to stand. If I hold her up, she stands 1-2
seconds. She is cushed with head up and alert, ears up, teeth not erupted.
I'm
going to the store now to get Karo syrup and cow's milk and 1/2 and 1/2
right
now, we were not ready for this one yet! 9.2 lbs, low temp of 94 so I
covered
her with blankets. Any other suggestions?

[AlpacaTalk] Re: Ah Geez

Well, I last posted on this subject 2 days ago...

To be honest, I am not concerned in the least by some certain jerk's
actions. I was told by a friend about the big stink at AS. I didn't
know about it first-hand because that chat group is not something I
look at very often. It's just not on my radar.

I am baffled that people are saying stuff like "Kudos for coming clean,
takes a big person to admit one's faults" and garbage like that... And
what really baffles me is that anyone puts up with that nonsense!
Because from what I've been told he's done it more than once in the
past. And he just keeps treating people like garbage. Allison makes a
very good point: "The best predictor of future behavior in adults is
their past record."

I mean, there are alternatives to that foolishness... right here for
example. We just don't have to put up with it. I know I don't. And I
won't.

But I'm certainly not stressed about Mr. Blow My Own Horn or his
actions, I haven't lost any sleep over his latest tantrum, in fact I
find his behavior tiresome. No kidding, exactly like a 2 year old
throwing a tantrum. Does anyone want to know why I never intended to
have kids, and then stopped at 1? Thanks to jeebus my daughter was a
very well behaved and polite child.

So that's my stand. I simply don't care what goes on "over there." If
people want to be treated with respect, and as though they are adults,
they can come here. En Masse. And continue to behave as adults.

And like Stephanie said, people will piss off others, people will take
offense at others. But guess what else? We're adults. As long as
there's no actual flaming and serious childishness (which I've only
observed by a certain chat group moderator, frankly), there's no need
for scolding, moderating, or banning.

We don't have to put up with that sort of tyranny, period.

RE: [AlpacaTalk] Re: Fwd: Current status of group

Hi Stephanie,

You asked, "What did JRT say?" Well.it was about 2+ years ago.so my
recollection is hazy, but it was all knee jerk stuff.not about alpacas at
all.just personal "invective" and "vitriol".type comments. I did not keep
them but I suppose lots of other folks saw it and thought it was odd enough
to hang on to.just general flaming with bad words thrown in is my general
recollection. It is just that it stood out as peculiar types of stuff to
post on an ALPACA site-not the sort of postings we normally see there.

What folks are asking me about is not what was in those posts, but did any
of the "new" moderators purge the archives of those posts. The answer, so
far as I know it is that no moderator, except an owner, has access to purge
or change the settings on the archives.so that answer must be a resounding
"NO".

What I have been told is the reason that so many folks have written both me
and the new moderators .is that now the archive suddenly does not have those
posts in it any more. ONLY those posts appear to now be missing. However,
since the list is so large, some of the folks who were there then have kept
the JRT posts.so if they are missing, other folks on the list can still
supply replacements...which is neither here nor there.

The folks querying me appear to be much more interested in why the posts are
now suddenly missing from the archives than any real need to see them after
all this time.

It is overall unimportant when compared to getting that site up, running
sanely, with new fair and fairly enforced rules.and no repeat bad behavior.
That is the more crucial focus than what used to be in the archives that has
very little to do with any industry important issues or information.

While the general brouhaha is unimportant..it seems to me that getting the
site on an even keel with fair and fairly enforced rules, some back up for
the moderator.and "open government" with free expression to the extent such
things are possible there .are all important goals we should discuss,
encourage and require because, no matter who owns the site, nominally.in the
end, it is the industry's site, not any one persons personal 'baby'.

Best Regards,

Allison

Allison,

Do you know what Judy Root said? I was not tuned in to
AS, so I missed it. From my experiences with her, I
have a feeling it wasn't very good!

Past behavior is a predictor of future behavior. True.
I know I have pissed people off before and there is a
pretty good chance I will do it again sometime! But,
when you try to censor people from saying things, then
you are wrong.

I was put on perma-moderate on AS because there was a
farm that had all their alpacas killed. Everyone else
was being understanding and comforting to the person.
They were rallying to get the sheriff involved and the
dogs shot. I made a mistake by saying that the farm
owner is ultimately responsible for the dog attacks.
It is every farm's responsibility to keep trees away
from the fence line, keep gates secure and fencing
adequate. If these things are not done, then you may
have a problem. I was not being sensitive and caring,
but just stating the real cold, hard facts of the
matter and thus I was put on moderate. Now, my posts
are completely ignored and I get a message from Yahoo
saying that my posts are deleted after 14 days when
the moderator hasn't looked at them.

This will not be a Rick free zone, unfortunately.
Heather makes it a point to let everyone be heard

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: Fwd: Current status of group

Too bad this thread has continued, but it gives me the opportunity to say what I should have said a couple days ago.? Bashing another person reflects badly on those doing the bashing.? The more you bitch about Rick, the more people are going to think badly of you all.

While Heather isn't participating at this point, I have two words for her (and Stephanie, I am sure you remember this also)

-Stephen Kent-

I find the Rick bashing interesting, after that episode.? Like I said, I have gotten on his bad side also, but cleared up the problem and got over it.? I didn't go to other sites and say how stupid the "no advertising" rule is on AS.? What on Earth good would that do other than to get my blood pressure up and ruin my sleep?

I probably should have kept my mouth shut in the first place.? After all, you are all free to complain about whatever you want to complain about.? But that doesn't make this group very useful to people who are looking for information on alpacas.

Allison,

Do you know what Judy Root said? I was not tuned in to
AS, so I missed it. From my experiences with her, I

Past behavior is a predictor of future behavior. True.
I know I have pissed people off before and there is a

I was put on perma-moderate on AS because there was a

They were rallying to get the sheriff involved and the
