I had the same though :)? We have had about 3 inches of rain in two days.? And I am repeatedly telling my kids to shut the darn door to keep the heat in.

Oh stop bragging about your lovely weather! We've had rain rain and
more rain for the past week or more, maybe two weeks, we're thrilled if
it gets into the 60s! Woo, like summer! Heehee!

Blueberries do well here in Oregon, but we can't keep the deer out of
them. And we don't feel like building deer fence, already plenty of
projects!

I'm about to try some beet pulp, too. My older black Bolivian girl is
getting very thin, and I want a few more babies form her!

Nothing lovely about this hot weather, Heather! Its dry and icky and the
alpacas already have more fleece than they need right now. I'm more than ready
for winter or whatever form it takes here in CA. I miss the rain!

fleas and the coats are lovely.

Thanks June,
All really has been well here now for a while, thank goodness. No
emergencies, no health problems, etc. I had to turn my fragmented
attention elsewhere for a while and missed reading this list. I try to
check in as often as possible.

I am horrified to think that the flax seed I have been giving my dog may
be the cause of his skin/coat problems - egads/horrors!

I will take him off today and see how it goes, and will start adding the
apple cider vinegar. Thanks for the tip. The cooler weather has helped
a lot, at least no more hot spots, but his hair just will not grow back
to its former splendor.

And thanks Karen for the info about Stillwater minerals. I will check
into those. Money being what it is these days (non existent) I will
need to find a cheaper source as.....drum roll.....the pacas ALL ate
EVERY bite of their beet pulp laced with minerals this morning, along
with their pellets. Yippee!

Cherry trees gone, and minerals being eaten. Maybe I will actually get
a full term baby that lives this coming year. Oh, gee, I just
remembered, I still need to follow up on BSE and something else
mentioned to me during this discussion earlier this year. I need to go
back and find those posts (I have filed away) and get on dealing with
those possibilities. My oh my, always something. Currently, being a
farmer and all, I have been up to my eyeballs in harvesting the last of
the green beans, okra, peppers, etc before the freezes came in last
week, drying apples like mad, getting in 200 more strawberry plants this
past week and trying to keep alive the 70 new blueberry bushes I planted
this year....in the middle of our awful drought.

Warmly, Janice in GA

I definitely agree that daily is too frequent. Weekly is about the
highest frequency most of us can stand. :) I know I'll have a show to
announce next year, and I think weekly is sufficient, maybe even
bi-monthy is enough.

Hello list,

I agree.but not daily repeat mentions of every marketing event..as has been

geographic area noted as well as time for upcoming seminars of general

Hi Heather,

Just wanted to say I consider announcements for
seminars and how-tos acceptable advertising. It is or could be, very
helpful.

Advertising discussion

You see, that's why I ask for input from members. So we have two
members who have spoken up that they consider announcements for
seminars and how-tos unacceptable advertising.

That you may not be interested in attending a show in VA is beside the
point. This group is comprised of members from around the planet. Not
every topic will interest everyone. Say you do want to attend a
pre-natal seminar, but you don't know where one is held. The ability to
post a spread the word about events is crucial!

I feel that there is a very clear difference between announcing a
seminar, show, or marketing advice, and those that announce products or
animals. If I'm selling something, I benefit from the income. The
buyer, I suppose, benefits in receiving goods - socks, your
hypothetical poop scooper, my hypothetical wonderful alpaca for sale or
sire for hire, blankets, sweaters... But classes and shows are
different in that ALL attendees have the same opportunity. Certainly,
those who put on the show or seminar are profiting, but so are those
who attend. They are completely different.

I definitely do not want this to be a classified ad posting board. I
want information to be shared, any information that can help our fellow
alpaca breeders.

I would really like to see more discussion on this, from more members.

I think a daily ad day is a good idea too.? I'm with Janice about Ellie's post, but at the same time could see where they could at times violate Heather's idea that if an advertisement benefits the whole alpaca community it is ok, if it benefits just the seller, it is not ok.? A book can be thought of as both ways - benefiting us with ?information, but definitely only the author financially.? And benefiting someone financially is what advertising is all about.

So my vote is with a one day advertisement day.

I like it! What do the rest of you think about it?

And Janice, you're so funny, apprentice with me! I learned how to weave

When we feed it, we feed free choice. We make a big batch and let them eat
as much as they want and then pick up the left overs at the next feeding so it
doesn't spoil. That goes for all animals, horses/alpacas/dogs. It is a forage
complement. Its not like feeding grain.

Free Alpacas Newsletter- How to Profit from Alpaca Farming

[AlpacaTalk] Re: Contract Extensions

A most valid point! It is one that will be argued by the Sellers
Attorney. However, since the wheel was put into motion by the
trustee...it has to be carried out. (As I understand it) Or it
would have just simply been a phone call to the trustee indicating
such.

Be well
