I sure hope Brandie continues to improve, and they find out what it
is! It's so hard when they're sick.

Hi List,

A few weeks ago a good site for gray was launched. I carefully saved the

seen in the flat xrays as they call them and the same thing in the new
xrays. What it looked like to me, not having a clue what else to call the ' spots

was a hands on show and tell for them. I took her right into the office.

Amy did get in contact with Dr. Anderson, and from what Amy told him, this
is what he said to her a few days ago: >Yes. I agree with doing a medullary
aspirate or biopsy (I prefer biopsy). Given the species, it should not be bone
tumor, but need to find otu what it is. However, let's look at those rads.
There is a "lucent" looking area in the distal humerus that is an anatomical
feature too.> Amy is going to send a cd of the digitals to Dr. Anderson. I got
a cy of them also.

So that made me feel better, and with Brandie not showing any pain today
from the manipulating, helped me too!

Amy tried to get in touch with Dr. Pugh, dont know if she succeeded yet. He
had moved on some four years ago, and is with a pharmaceutical company, dont
remember which. Turns out that Amy knows Dr. Pugh.

At this point, unless Dr. Anderson finds something, Brandie is on the mend!!

Re: [AlpacaTalk] AOBA

Right. You see, why is a non-profit generating funds that don't allow
it to qualify as a non-profit? That is where many of us have a major
problem. Now that ALC has all of the fund-raising operations, AOBA
again is crying poor, and putting their hands into our pockets deeper
and deeper.

Well, AOBA is going to cut its own throat, because we're mad as hell
and we're not going to take it any more! We don't need the AOBA show
division, we can utilize ALSA or the National Alpaca Sweepstakes
system, or IAJS... AOBA ain't the only show in town! ;> Literally!

Other than showing, and having an extra $100 (extra $50 over
Associate member dues, and $50 for show div. membership) extorted
from me for the privilege of showing my animal or fleece, I have no
reason to be an AOBA member.

And, now that EPDs are here. we really will need AOBA less and less.
The need to wake up and smell the cat box. We can and will take our
money elsewhere, where we'll get a better value.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] AOBA

OK-- I'll try. How much income is generated is not the issue. Think
outside of breeding associations and only think in terms of not for profit. The
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has boat loads of money, they have not
created a for profit business arm because HOW they generate funds lines up well
with their not for profit status. They could generate another boat load or two
of income in '09 or none at all, but how they generate any income is the key.
Again not the amount. When a NFP operates in a way that generates funds
that do not line up with their NPF status (in the opinion of counsel) those
activities get moved out of the NFP entity and into a for profit one.

In the opinion of counsel to AOBA, some of their income generating
activities do not line up with their NFP status and the advise was to move them to a
for profit entity. Simple as that. Do I think the new for profit entity was
setup with full member knowledge and involvement? Absolutely not. IMO, of
all the activities, plans, policies and procedures put in place by the AOBA
BODs over the years, setting up this for profit entity in the manner in which
it was done, was at best the most improper activity ever undertaken.
But...........that doesn't change why is was recommended and needed.

Elden,
We have been fed that line since this ALC was created. Yet, many
other animal breeding organisations and agricultural organisations
have publications that generate income for the non-profit orgs, yet
they have no need to create for-profit companies to channel funds.

Maybe when that issue is answered, this will be put to bed.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: Bone Tumor: Update

Jim,

Those were the days---I was an intern approximately 25 years ago. Now I
am an internist, or perhaps more appropriately, a specialist in adult
medicine, as opposed to a pediatrician. As an aside, I actually
considered switching to large animal veterinary medicine, but was unable
to convince the powers that be, that I would have liked to have gotten
credit for some of the courses I took, in addition to 25 years of
experience. I was informed that that would be "impossible" to do and
that I'd have to start at the beginning. I even offered to pay for the
basic academic courses I wouldn't be taking, if I could take and pass
the exams (not including the clinical courses or those pertaining to
different species, which I understood would be necessary). With the
shortage of large animal vets, it's too bad the veterinary schools
couldn't think outside the box.
