[AlpacaTalk] Virus Update
The reports of the virus continue to decrease. Over the past few days I
have only received one report. Sadly there is one older female that is
ill, and may not make it.
Total herd size reported: 4892
Total number reported infected: 2530
Total number of deaths reported: 53 from owners and 6+ from
vets/universities
Reports of infections: 38 States
Reports of deaths: 21 States
Reporting farms: 162
If you have a new outbreak of the virus please let me know. At this
point it really appears that the threat from the virus is just about
over. We will have to wait to see if it reappears next year.
In the mean time AlpacaWatch is growing quickly. We currently have 724
members. Please be aware that as the concerns over the virus pass
updates to the different Yahoo lists will cease. If you want to be
informed and kept up to date on possible health and safety issues that
might affect the alpacas/camelids community please join AlpacaWatch.
AlpacaWatch was formed place control of alerting alpaca and Camelid
owners of possible dangers and concerns directly into our hands. We
want a say in when, how and why we are alerted! By joining AlpacaWatch
we each become a resource and part of the solution. As a member of
AlpacaWatch you are responsible for notifying us of issue that may
affect the alpaca community in your Region or State.
