Re: [AlpacaTalk] Excenel

Thanks, guys.  Well, I had no luck at all.  I treated her eye again with the wash and ointment and then went to give her the shot.  She is our worst female to treat - David held her pretty good but as soon as I touched her she still jumped right on top of me and smashed me hard into the ground and into a fence.  So I gave up right then and there, I already have ruptured lumbar discs and don't need more.  Pregnant girls are HEAVY.  I think we need to make a chute for her.  I'm imprinted now - I have two perfect alpaca hoofprints on my upper back.  Her entire eye is still cloudy but looks a bit better - how long does that take to go away if its going to heal?

Tha nks - it just worries me that it says treat 0-14 days postpartum so I was wondering.  I'm treating the eye anyway with tetracycline ointment BID so maybe that will be enough, I just dont' like to take any chances with eyes.

It doesn't specifically say NOT to administer during pregnancy. And I believe we gave it to a few girls last winter with no problem.

Re: [SPAM][AlpacaTalk] What's new?

While the slugs that carry the virus slow down, they do not die in the cold, just hole up under leaves. Which, if you alpacas are anything like mine, is a favorite snack food, particularly in winter. If you have 3 full months of below freezing, which VA doesn't, you might be safe. Give them their shots as soon as you can.

[AlpacaTalk] Selling alpacas in a good economy...

...is substantially different than selling alpacas in a bad economy .

You can coast when times are good, and you'll still sell a few now and then.  But when times are tough, coasting doesn't cut it.

Now is the time to get serious about the science and the art of marketing.  It takes KNOW-HOW and effort.  But it WORKS!!!  If you're serious about alpacas as a business, if you want to grow your industry, you must attract and sell to new producers, new breeders.

And that takes better marketing.  You can learn it.  You can do it.

Check out the books on marketing for farmers at http://beyondthesidewalk.com/books.shtml
(30 days, any reason, I'll buy them back)

The DVD's of my marketing seminar at http://beyondthesidewalk.com/cd.shtml

The audio CD's also at http://beyondthesidewalk.com/cd.shtml

Or put on a marketing seminar at your own farm--learn how to sell alpacas and position your farm as a center of education and excellent breeding.  I'm so sure that it's worth your time and money that I give a money back guarantee to any one who attends!  Email me for details.

Best wishes for success in the alpaca industry!
