[AlpacaTalk] Fleece pics [11 Attachments]

[Attachment(s) from Heather Zeleny included below]

Ok, here are the pics of my little girl, just about two months old.

Her dam is huacaya, her dam's dam is huacaya from two suris. Not a
cross.

Cria's sire is 100% huacaya, as is her dam's sire.

Is it possible that she could be one of those almost mythical "chili"
alpacas?

Jim, I agree, she seems to have awesome fiber. I have no doubt that
fiber artists will love it. I'm looking forward to her first clip,
actually. How great would that be, the tactile qualities of suri, but
the ease of care of huacaya?

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: Suri question

Heather if you look on my website www.gwfarmanimals.com and scroll to the very end you will see the huacaya suri crosses I have for sale.  They have the most wonder fiber to work with, however they are a dickens to sell. I have learned that the crosses are a big NO NO in the alpaca world.  I had two years where my big suri male proved to be more deer like than alpaca. He has been sold so that is at least over.

Just some FYI

Suri is a dominate gene and "usually" overides huacaya however there are instances where a suri is born to 2 huacaya and they have no tracable suri in the background.  Any way just know I think that fiber is some of the best fiber I have ever spun.

I just sent pics to both you and Judith. They're from the day she was born, and I'll really try to remember to bring my camera down to get close-up fleece shots of her at my next feeding of the bottle babies.

A friend and I call these alpacas, huasuris.  ;o)  And yes their fiber is very soft and silky.  Fiber people LOVE them!  Heck - I LOVE how their fiber feels!

I have a Huacaya mom that came from two suri's. She is black & her first cria came out with the strangest fiber. It was straight & extremely soft. The cria was also black. She just didn't seem to have "normal" Huacaya fiber nor Suri fiber. But I have people who LOVE her fiber (She did eventually grow fiber that look more like Huacaya) and feel it is as soft as silk.

I just realized that you said it seemed to be twisting at the skin.  Suri fiber twists from the tip back, not from the skin out.

Yes, it is very open at the tips. I'll try to get pics when I go out with the bottles in about an hour.

Heather

PS. Yahoo groups is rejecting my emails! How about that! I have to post via the web interface.
