[AlpacaTalk] Re: perfect alpaca farm

Hi Marie,

Feel free to e-mail me privately with any question you may have. I
guess I am a frustrated writer, but I have loved your questions so
far. If you feel funny visiting a farm with no intentions of buying,
are unable to find one in your area, or have some other reason you
would rather investigate alpacas through the anonymity of the
Internet, e-mail me anytime at radched@aol.com

Marie, With all this writing you are doing have you thought about
looking for and visiting some alpaca farms in your area? You'd really
get some "hands on" and would get a lot of your questions answered.

[AlpacaTalk] Re: fiber

Another thing to keep in mind is the yield from each animal. If you
have a 5lb blanket (lucky you!) then you aren't going to get 5lbs of
yarn back! Talk with the mill regarding your finished product, what
they expect you will receive from them. Also, do you want your own
animal fibers back? Some mills just send you from their stock.

If you have only say 3 or 4 alpacas there might be a charge for
processing a small amount. Seen one mill charge $45! So, buyer
beware, not all mills are alike you really need to shop. Ask other
alpaca people who they use and ask to see what they got. If that's not
possible then ask the mill to send you a sample.

It takes at least 12 50 gram skeins of yarn to make a sweater so take
that into account if you are selling to knitters. A scarf on the other
hand would only take 2.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] goofy writer question

You can find answers to many of your questions by using a search engine
such as Google, or by visiting an alpaca farm, as many members have
suggested. As far as using a search engine to find answers you seek,
there are many many web sites that are full of much more detailed info
than many of us feel compelled to hand-type in response to a pointed
question, that we know is very easy to find the answer to online. I
really suggest using this method of research, and then asking questions
that have not been addressed on the multitude of web pages on the
internet. Here's a wikipedia entry, for starters, this answers many
questions you've asked.
