Re: [AlpacaTalk] RE: Grouply

Well, some groups aren't listed in the Yahoo groups directory, so to
join you must either be invited or know someone who can tell you the
group name to get to the web page to request to join. Some groups are
only able to be viewed by members, as Alpaca Site is. And then there
are groups like AlpacaTalk, where all posts are able to be viewed by
anyone, although only members can post, and I believe only members can
see full email addresses. I put this question up to the membership,
whether they would prefer to close viewing posts to non-members or to
leave it as is. The replies I received were all in favor of leaving it
as is, so that people can see what we actually do talk about here, and
then we will then get more members. Some groups, I guess, have the
membership listing set so that all members can view it, but I left it
was important NOT to set it that way so to preserve a bit of privacy. I
don't know how easy it would be to mine the membership listing, but if
someone could do it, it would just open everyone up to even more ads
and junk email.

That can't be the trigger as I have posted quite a bit lately and I
didn't receive the invitation.

<<I'm on quite a few yahoo discussion groups, and one of them is private, >>

Heather, does this mean that not all yahoo groups are "private". What
does that mean exactly? Am I mistaken in my belief that the posts that
I post to yahoo groups are private and only available to members of that
group?

Thanks, Janice
