Re: [AlpacaTalk] Feeding times

I have always fed my alpacas there pellets in the evening. It makes it easy
for me to get them in for the night.

[AlpacaTalk] Feeding times

Hello everyone. I am new to alpaca farming and can use some advise.

I work outside of the house and leave early in the morning.
My females do not eat their grain supplement very well in the morning
and I would like to begin feeding them the grain in the evening when I do the evening feedings.

Is there any reason why I should not feed the grain in the evening?

They have hay, water, and free choice minerals all the time.

Please advise.

[AlpacaTalk] RE: fly predators

<<<Avon Skin So Soft Oil and the cream are fly repellents, they work
really, really well on the alpacas, horses and even on dogs' ears. Plus,
it smells
really nice and moisturizes your hands when you apply it, too. The flies
eat the black stripes on my donkey's legs to the point of bloodying them and
the Skin So Soft Oil works for at least two days. Plus, it makes the fungal
lumps in my horses' ears disappear.

I used to use SSS on the horses when I was an Avon rep. Haven't done
that in years. Thanks for the reminder. It takes so much for the large
animals that it m ight be worth it to become a rep again just for this
one item! Think I will look into it.
I made the mistake when my now 10yo was little and moisquitos just LOVED
her. I sprayed her clothing and hair down one evening as we were
heading outside.....didn't realize it was SO oily. What a mess that
was. But for skin it is great :-).

Janice, who just started adding DE to horse and alpaca feed yesterday,
the chickens have been getting it for a few weeks now.....hoping to head
off the horrible fly season
