Donate my alpaca blankets?
We are working with Pendleton Woolen Mills on a test run. They may
(we hope) decide to retool the local (defunct sheep wool) mill near
here, process and market our fiber, all at their expense. This is
the result of about a two-year effort. I hope the incentive of free
fiber for the test run will help expedite this process.
Please mark your shipment as "donation to our future". Carol (my
wonderful wife) is the fleece superintendent (go figure!) for
Willamette Alpaca Breeders Association (WABA) upcomming AOBA
sanctioned show. The show is in Albany OR in May, and she will be
receiving show entry fleece for the next month or so --- we do not
want (and will not) get anything mixed up with these two separate
events. Your marking of the donated fleece will help with this.
If you want to enter your fleece blankets in the Heart of the Valley
Alpaca Show see this link: http://www.hotvshow.com In which case,
if mailing your fleece, follow show instructions.
How many of you out there have fiber that is 2 or more years old.
Unless stored properly (sealed, correct temp, correct humidity) it
is probably too brittle to process. Unfortunately, this is what
happens all too often with alpaca fiber.
If you have fiber (firsts please) that is still good (preferably
less than one year old), that realistically you figure you will end
up discarding sometime in the future, please send it to us so we can
(hopefully) get this deal off the ground and get our (all of us)
fiber industry set up as a going concern here in the USA.
Thank you.
Our farm focus is on fiber. We have numerous wholesale accounts
with alpaca farms and specialty stores as well as a RRETAIL
website. We do market South American finished goods as well as ones
made in the USA. We do this to increase public awareness (and
therefore demand) for alpaca products. We are working towards being
able to utilize just USA products, but the manufacture in the USA of
these is very limited.
We appreciate all that everyone does to promote alpaca as a premier
fiber.
