If I'm not mistaken, Andy and Cheryl Tillman should be able to tell you about Acero Marka imports.  Whether or not they actually came from the Hacienda, is up for grabs, but they would probably know more than just about anyone.

I just did a search on AlpacaNation for full-Bolivian gray females, and found only 10, and only 5 are rose-gray. One of them is my Bolivian Christina. She's very hardy; still going strong at age 14, pregnant and due in February.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: Acero Marka

I have a dam imported from Acero Marka. She had 17 microns at import at over 3 years of age. She's 14 or 15 now and actually still has crimp. Not long staple any more, but she is pretty dense. Unfortunately, she's probably never going to have any more babies, but what I'd give for a whole her f girls like her!

I have a true black Bolivian import dam who throws really amazingly fine and crimpy crias. She herself was 21.2 at import, and was 24 at six years old. I will never sell her, either. Her yearling son (also true black and full Bolivian) tested at 19.4 microns at one year, and placed 1st of 4 under Amy Bliss Miller last weekend. I just sold a daughter of hers who was 16.2 at a year and 18.1 at two years.

I hope more people will breed full Bolivian! They are generally known for density, extreme fineness, and crimp, combined with lack of guard hair.

You are right, Acero Marka was both a macho and the name of the ranch in Bolivia that bred some of the finest fibered animals ever. I have a dam from that line, she is not a full-bred bolivian, but she IS out of Acero Marka's Everado, a true black stud from Bolivia that died a while back. My dam is going on six years old, has had four cria and STILL has a 16 micron fiber. The cria she has given have, without a doubt had some of the most premiere fiber ever. While she doesn't have much in crimp and density, when you breed her to studs with those qualities, the fiber is amazing. I'm not sure I would ever part with this dam considering what she gives me. That and the fact I bought her from Jodi Wever five years ago. If others regard the fiber as I do, good luck finding any dams like mine for sale.
