[AlpacaTalk] Our cria, Magnolia May
Well, our girl is doing well and I thought you all might like to hear an update. She is four weeks old and weighs 30 pounds. Mama is wonderful, although we are having to feed her quite a bit to keep up with Maggie May.
I have a question. Mimosa (mom) weighed 163 two days prior to Maggie’s birth. Maggie weighed 17 lbs and while I didn’t weigh it…….I would say the placenta weighed near that amount. Anyway………Mimosa weighs 128 lbs and while she certainly looks slim and trim, her hip bones are not showing. Also, cria is gaining about ½ to ¾ lb daily, so I know lots of calories are going to baby. Is it normal for her to be 35 pounds less than before delivery. Just wanting to get some feedback.
We have weaned our suri boy from mama………actually the day Maggie was born I decided to keep all moms together with her and Maggie, but left the weanlings with “all the single ladies”. It has been four weeks. He has lost a few pounds but mom is doing well. My other weanling is doing great and her mom is the EPE girl who weighed 115 when she arrived on Nov 1 and as of June 1 she weighs 145! She is due to deliver Sept. 5, so we have three more months to help her build herself back up.
