Re: [AlpacaTalk] Bale Feeder

Jim - what did you use for the cut portion of the plastic barrel to smooth it out?  They get pretty sharp.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Alpaca Kooler

I used 3/4" pipe, cuz I had it, and all the fittings I needed.  So, I guess I made a drippy hose!!  :)  Drip pipe should work too.  May have to make the holes larger.

I kinda priced what the fittings would cost, but cost will vary! :) If one were to buy a hundred foot roll of the 1/2", should be able to make five of them, figuring twenty foot each hoop.  If ya spring for the metal pipe insert parts, these things would be virtually indestructible. They wouldnt be damaged if ran over with a truck.  I had plastic fittings, some parts like the part the hose connects to were metal - (brass).

We use those 50' flat sprinkler hoses, but they are so easily turned over. I really like yours!

Did you make yours out of 1/2" drip system line and punch holes every 6" or so? I thunk I'll have to try that!

GREAT idea, Jim!  We have a sprinkler hooked up to a battery-operated sprinkler timer with a splitter and the other hose end is hooked up to a hose in the water bucket, making an auto-waterer.  Works well but we have one piggy who lies on the sprinkler sometimes and the other girls can't get to it.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Bale Feeder

I use a feeder that I built from a half plastic barrel and some cattle panel, so dont use the bale feeder. The herd just kushes around it, like having a gab fest, resting and munching away.  My guess is that your hungry one, or so it thinks, would just stuff its self. :) After a while, they file out to the pasture.

I have a question - what do your fatty alpacas do with the full bale feeder?  We have one that I am sure would just sit there all day and eat.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Bale Feeder

Any thing from them must be made of gold, I have seen some single feeders that were very hi prices too, close to $200!!

With the way things have worked for me, I could build a bunch of them, and not sell a one.  The thought is there!!

I just saw that, too! I didn't click the link because we make our own for way less than $50. $499? That's outrageous!

Maybe we should go into business of making hay boxes, huh? ;>

I like the bale feeder Heather built.  Got an email today from Liberty Alpacas, showing their bale feeder.  It is a two bale job.
