[AlpacaTalk] Free alpacas-I need time!!

It is with mixed emotion that we are offering 5 alpaca for free. You
pay transportation. Of the five, Carlton Heston is a great herdsire;
he has produced 3 boys and 2 girls for us. The first girl sold for
$10,000 and the second sold for $12,500 at two weeks of age (just a
couple weeks ago). Of the other four, one is an ancient female, one is
a true black very nice boy of herdsire quality, the other two are
boys, one true black and one brown. This is an all or none package!
We are keeping our pregnant females and their cria.

Because of the time needed to go forward with the Pendleton project
which I believe will help the alpaca industry in the USA, we need to
let go of these five alpaca. One thing I would ask in return for these
alpaca is all the white and brown first cut that you can send to help
with the project. While sad to let go of many of our alpac (this
leaves is with four and one of these the cria that is sold), it is
very exciting that the project that has been in the planning stage for
over three years is finally taking off and moving towards the goal
of--1. Having a place to sell our fiber and 2. Promoting US produced
alpaca goods and 3. .....well, more later, this post is about the
alpaca.

I just got word that shipping along the I-5 corridor from Washington
State, Oregon & California is available for free. If you have fleece
to donate to the project and are in that area, please contact me for
details.

Please use our business email for project and donation questions. It
is ElderberryCreekAlpacas@yahoo.com

This offer for the alpaca is first come, first win, however, we will
need to verify that they are going to a good home.

Thank you so much for all your support on this project.

Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: fleece shows

Hi Shari,
Sorry I didn't reply right away! I did contact the show sup., affiliate
pres., judge, and Connie Alexander immediately! The only one who has
responded was Connie. The others are "looking into it."

I'm sure that what you described is exactly what happened, but this
sort of error is inexcusable. My boys were shorn 129 days before the
start of the show. 6/12/07. They did have over 380 days of fleece
growth, but that's why they annualize the fleece weight, so the weight
is judged on 365 days worth of growth.

But my main issue is, these fleeces should not have been disqualified.
I am certain they will refund my entry fees, but that doesn't come
anywhere close to compensating for not having the ribbons these fleeces
would have likely won (as they have always ribboned, and very well, in
the past). Is a blue ribbon worth more than the entry fee? I think so,
one almost cannot put a value on a blue ribbon.

[AlpacaTalk] Alpaca Upper Respiratory Virus

Hi Everyone,

Having gotten tired of calling this insidious virus `The Snots'
I have started calling it `Alpaca Upper Respiratory Virus',
AURV. I'm sure the experts will eventually give us a name, but
until them AURV is better than the snots….

Here is the address for the latest numbers and map. Please be aware
that there are new cases still coming in. This is not over, and the
virus is still going strong. We are also still getting reports of
deaths. However, in order to add the information to the report we need
to have the details from individual farms. The information is 100%
confidential, and your name, farm/ranch name, and identifying
information will not be included.

Quoting Allison E. Moss-Fritch

"We are all at risk while any one of us is at risk. Given the
numbers---over 1000 reports going back at least as far as June
2007---this is not something that is just happening at the farms which
have currently been reporting.

Many other farms are suffering through the throes of this alpaca
disease, which though often mild, is also capable of killing your
animals in a matter of hours. Nothing is to be gained by delay in
reporting. Everything may be gained."
