Re: [AlpacaTalk] shearing questions

Do you have a shearer setup to do your animals? If not contact me off line and I can give you the contact for a shearer that will be back into your state this Spring.   The way you decide how to sort your fleece has everything to do with what you plan to use the fleece for.Example:sending to a small mill-talk with them about your options for your fleece and they can tell you what they expect.  Plan to show the fleece at a show--you need to have the blanket area taken off into a sheet or heavy plastic to lay it out on then to roll the fleece so you can skirt it later for showing.Do you want to have felt, yarn made lots to consider. You will generally take one animals fleece and sort it out to blanket, seconds, thirds if you want.
I do not do thirds, did earlier in my business but now I do not put the extra effort in.Good luck and have fun with your new Pacas!!Need a shearer contact me off site. Thanks,TT

Subject: [AlpacaTalk] shearing questions

We will have our new Alpacas soon.  They will have to be sheared soon, also.

They are nice and clean.

I will want to take the fleece and have it turned into roving, possibly combining some with some nice wool.

Do I need to sort the fleece into different bags, or do I put the whole fleece from each animal into the same bag?

Of course, I would throw away the dirty parts, but I mean clean fleece.
