[AlpacaTalk] Alpaca with thick crusty skin

My vet is coming out to neuter one of my boys and she is going to
check this then. One of my other geldings has about a six inch by
three inch patch of very thick crusty skin along his backbone above
his shoulders. There are a few other spots, but this is the biggest.
The strange thing is that it is not at all red,and hair continues to
grow just fine. He is a white suri, about two years old. It does not
seem to bother him at all, no apparent itching or irritation. Has
anyone else seen this in their animals before? I'm sure the vet will
take a skin scraping, but from what I have read about mites, it is not
fitting the description of any type of mite.

Thanks,
Susan
