[AlpacaTalk] pregnancy testing
So we put my matriarch in with the male for the past week. He has no
interest in her whatsoever, yet is pacing the fence to get to his
girlfriend. I don't understand? My matriarch is about 10/11yo and
hasn't been pregnant in 3 yrs (since Charlie Brown passed). I wanted
to get another baby, at least one more from her before she is too old.
What could be going on here?
The male has been separated from the females for the past year +; the
other female of suitable age accidently got into his pasture one night
about 2 mos ago. We didn't see any mating, but could only assume. So
after giving up on the matriarch I let this other female - his favorite,
in the pasture with him also. My goodness, he was RIGHT THERE, didn't
take him 2 min to start trying to mount her and she was spitting him off
like crazy. It took 2 of us to pull him off her and get her out of there.
So I take that to mean she is preg!? Oh boy, another winter baby -
just what I have been trying to avoid :-(.
Are they really that particular and have their favorites and others
there are just "not that into"?
Janice
