[AlpacaTalk] Resignations, discussions of AOBA, Fiber/Meat, Affiliate Congress, Industry Challenges
Good Morning Industry,
It has taken me almost an hour just to review and digest the quantity of
posts come to the inbox.
Obviously the industry is communicating and discussing its challenges,
options, governance, and other salient issues.which is all well and good.
What is NOT GOOD is that we as an industry tend to react with a "stampede"
mindset. If I could have one immediate wish for each of us individuals in
the industry while reacting to the challenges we have been presented with,
it would be to follow the example of our alpacas and "ruminate" rather than
run helter-skelter all around like a stampeding herd.
We have some issues can be resolved easily and need to be dealt with very
quickly and in a specific order, in my view.
First.if we are to have an industry that is capable of discussion and
decision in a rational, non-stampede manner we must have COMMUNICATION.
As anyone can see.we have communication on the chat sites. Without an
Affiliate Congress, AOBA BOD now must either communicate here or through its
BLASTS and its minutes. We need some more COMMUNICATION and quickly from
this BOD, Please. Yes, I would recommend some public chat site posts from a
unified BOD.
Second
We will need to hear from the BOD a clarification of the
meat/hide/"Certifie
much unintended and unnecessary confusion was created by the use of that
particular example. It could be a single point within the next BOD
communication.
Third
Members of AOBA as well as non-members would like to see the minutes
updated so that we know where we are headed. The BLAST system is simply not
able to respond quickly enough to inform the industry at times like this.and
revving discussions around the chat sites without comment from BOD members
merely creates innuendo at a time when we need very clear, calm and
transparent leadership.
Fourth
We need to find out from the BOD how it will fill the position which
has been so recently vacated on the BOD.
Now, this sudden resignation has probably not given the BOD time to meet and
find out from its members who is going to fill that position. Plainly it
was not something that gives them a lot of lead time. We the industry need
to give the BOD at least 48 hours to meet and find out what they are going
to do. These things do take a reasonable amount of time to resolve. The
industry needs to be reasonable in not gossiping about what might be the
response meanwhile. Everyone both BOD and industry, needs to take a
reasoned, rational approach so that the humans who make up the BOD have time
to meet and discuss the options presented to them to resolve these problems.
Nothing here is going to fall apart over the weekend; so as an industry we
need to give the BOD time to respond with a well reasoned, clear statement.
The BOD merely needs to meet, discuss and then set the policy and state it.
Not an easy or quick task; but quite achievable.
Please, all AOBA members, industry participants, BOD members; let us tend to
our animals, give folks the time they need to react and respond. Then
listen well and discuss among ourselves at the time that response is issued.
We need to be calm, reflective, responsive and decisive.in that order. So
Think it Through before reacting.
Thanks for listening,
Allison Moss-Fritch of New Moon Alpacas
