I think that the free rent benefitted the entire membership equally.
I don't think it was illegal.
It did, in my opinion, create a conflict of interest (remember, the
conflict is in the perception, and exists regardless of unethical or
illegal actions).
In balance, I think the donation of the rent reflected both
generosity and poor judgment in the same breath. Thought so at the
time, and given this discussion I think so even more now.
