Re: [AlpacaTalk] best Fencing
We also use 2x4 no-climb fencing. I prefer the v-mesh or diamond weave
to the traditional rectangular spaced no-climb because when the alpacas
rub against the fencing, the 2x4 fencing has points that catch the
fleece and it does affect the fleece structure. The diamond or v mesh
has none of these little points. Here's a link to a company that I
guess sells fencing and perhaps installation services. I'm just
providing the link to the page with an illustration of the fencing for
those who are not familiar with this product!

It should be available at your local farm supply type store, or even
your local feed store. We have many feed stores in our area who do
carry a wide selection of fencing supplies in addition to feeds.
Check around for your best deals. We also used to have a farm co-op in
the area that carried the 2x4 no climb as well as the diamond mesh
fencing, and if i recall, their prices for the diamond mesh were lower
than for the 2x4.
Also, we recommend at least 5' high fencing for the outside fences, 6'
is even better. And make sure your gates are as secure as the fencing.
I have heard far too many stories of dog attacks where they gained
access through gates, under gates, over gates that were not as tall as
the fencing...
Good luck and feel free to keep the questions coming!
