Re: [AlpacaTalk] Van riding...

Welcome to Alpacas--feel free to e-me off site if you have more questions. I have a trailer that I use to travel to shows because of distance an amount of animals.I also have a farm mini-van.Love the van would never be without one ever again.I put down cargo mats-rugs then I have a tarp that covers the middle seat(only removed the last seat) and the entire animal area.I bed down with hay.I have a bucket set up for water.I stop often to let them get up,cria to nurse, ect. If I travel all alone animal with more then one paca I do not get them out.It just is not safe.It works out great---My first van did not have separate dual a/c or heat.It was very cold for the person traveling but the pacas were cool. Then I upgraded to dually temp controls. It is so much better.I can be comfortable and the pacas can be cool.It is a great way to travel. If you have an emergency it is so much better then a trailer--you can monitor the animal, you can easily control the temps, you do not have to worry about out door weather affecting the animals during a trip to the vet/hospital.It is a great farm item to have.We have always bought used vans for transport.HAVE A GREAT TIME WITH YOUR NEW ANIMALS!!

Subject: [AlpacaTalk] Van riding...

Hello everyone...
Still a lurker on here...but soon an owner! I'm so excited I finally told my husband...its either a pool in the back yard (which I didn't really want) or my alpacas!
Funny  when I said I wanted to rent some land close or find someone with land..he knows of a boy scout friend that raises llamas! lol...
So...my question is this...how far if any can an alpaca ride in my fold down seat van? I don't want to upset them..would a trailer be better? I want to start out with 5-6 as this wonderful friend of my husband has lots of pasture with just a couple of llamas...we have farm land about 25 miles away which my husbands uncles care for. So we will be providing the hay...
I'm so excited can you tell!
Any help on the van or advice on buying would be helpful...I have been looking at alpacanation...
Thanks
Carla Martin
