RE: [AlpacaTalk] Shearing Days ahead

Here here!!  I hear ya!  NO RAIN until after shearing day!!!  We had ours penned up and bringing in for shearing and stood there and watched one of ours decide to take a dust bath!! I am sure our shearer just grimaced!  I am sure he was thinking about his blades trying to go through the sand and grit.  We just ran and tried to get them up off the ground!  I will be relaxing Sunday on Mothers Day because we will have sheared on Friday and Saturday!!  This will be a good Mother's Day this year!  Shearing will be done!!

This is a busy time of year, for sure!  I am helping at one farm on Friday, another on Saturday and Sunday of this week and then ours will be done (with help) on Mother's Day……..Saturday and Sunday.

Last year I helped at a farm with 30 and then we did my 5 on Mother's Day.  This year I am still helping two other farms and then when we do mine, we'll have 15 to do, and a llama.  I am hoping to get up to snuff at the other farms so we can whip through ours as efficiently as possible!  I am also hoping for cool weather for shearing day and no rain!

Way to go Judy!

We are scheduled for May 8th...I hope!  We have 20 and the other farm has about 30, so we have a big day ahead of us too!  I will get the cooler full of ice and chuck it full of water and gatorade!  I am bound and determined that I will build a nice skirting table and start skirting the fleece quickly and get some fiber off to the mills!  The remainder fiber I think I may make some pet pillows.  My cats love sleeping on my last years fiber.  She looks soooo cozy!  We also make a nice lunch with lunch meat sandwhiches, veggies and snacks.  We try and wait until we only have a few animals left before eating....it's a bit hard to rest while eating and then getting our sore butts off the chairs and back into the barns!  But it sure does feel good when it's done!
