RE: [AlpacaTalk] RE: Allison
Thanks Janice,
What a day!---advice noted and appreciated. I will get some of those probiotics--
She does need something…her appetite is not what it was before this episode. Oh well…life is a fatal disease—which means we just have to put as much quality into the space between birth and death as possible!

<<< HI Janice,
Yes, I was horrified when she suddenly started attacking staff and cussing
and being oppositional.
she also tried to spear another resident with a fork.
In mid stream of this other stuff we had to stop and get her over to a
doctor; it is a 28 mile drive each way and she was not wanting to cooperate.
It turns out that she had a Urinary Tract Infection---
wheelchair bound elders---could not feel it as we might, so did not know it
was occurring.>>>
As I was reading I was already thinking med reaction or some such
thing. People don't just become like this for no good reason. thank
goodness a doc was able to dx and treat. But watch out for antibiotic
reactions. They will cause an imbalance in her intestinal flora which
can have far reaching affects - mental, emotional, and physical. I am
sure they are giving her antibiotics. Made sure she gets some good
high quality probiotics to reestablish the gut flora or she will get
really out of whack and start a downhill slide. The doc will say just
to eat some yogurt....that won't be good enough. She will need some
*really* high quality probiotics..
Natren's Healthy Trinity is the only one I know for a fact has the live
probiotics in it that it is supposed to have. Pricey, but worth it as
you actually get what you pay for. They make it in a powder form which
is cheaper and may be easier for her to take than swallowing the capsules.
All these changes are really hard on anyone and especially on the
elderly as they struggle with losing independence and their entire sense
of who they are. It is really really hard for them. Change is hard
for all of us, but most especially the elderly. My heart goes out to
her.....and you.
