[AlpacaTalk] RE: guard llama

<<< We have nicknamed him, "The Bouncer", since his primary function
will be to guard and play referee with our unruly boys. I received some
great advice about llamas. They are pretty docile but their size
intimidates predators AND the very boys they are protecting. I have been
told they will take on a leadership role and position themselves between
boys who are fighting. I'll let you know if we witness this behavior. >>>

I will be very interested to hear how this goes. I had planned on
getting a guard llama.....until Wendy's (in TN) experience. If I recall
she had a llama in with her alpacas that were killed as well as in an
outer pasture that ringed the pasture her females were in; and I believe
I recall that she also had a donkey in there as well - another animal
that had been suggested to me as a guard animal. After her devastating
experience I had to ask "so what good is a guard llama"?! I can't
wait to hear how Moose does!
Warmly, Janice
