Re: [AlpacaTalk] RE: Bone Tumor Update
I have a few mini donks too, and two standard donks, seven total. I had two dexter cows and their calves, the two cows were bred when I bought them, so I had six dexters for a SHORT while. They were just as wild as my alpacas were when I bought then from the mill. I sold the dexters after about a year. A mistake getting them, but not as costly as the alpaca mistake...
My farm name, Jimmini Farm, came from a friend of mine. I had to doctor Machos, my stallion, eye two or three times a day. Laura would come by and I would hold Macho while she smeared the stuff in his eye. He got so when he seen her red car come along the road and turn in my drive, he would RUN to his shelter!!! Laura and Rick, her DH, live about three miles from me. She had two bad hips and two bad knees when she was helping with Macho. One day she stopped by to help, and said she had thought of a name for my farm, the rest is history! BTW, Macho is a silver dapple, white mane and tail, sort of a chocolate brown body with some large white, hard to see, spots.
Your black boy sounds great! I bet he would have been a good match to the right mare. I know of a mare that was pastured with a mini stallion. She laid down for him!! My mares, Rosie is a chestnut with a black dorsal stripe, and Crystal is a buckskin. I have bred Rosie twice, first time I got Kid Cody - KC for short, a black, Eddie was the second and is a bay. The only time I bred Crystal, I got a black but he is a lighter black, not dark with light brown high lights.
The three boys run around their field a lot. Sometimes two will stop and do the wild stallion rearing thing, that is neat to see. I was in the field one day with the camera, and got some pics of them. A bit later, they all three were in a line, in step, racing around.

<<<<Minis are kinda kool, arent they? I have three colts, from my two
mares, and one stallion. Looks like I will have the boys for a while.
When, if, I do sell them, the buyer will be in for a grilling. Not just
any one will get them.
Thanks!

I know what you mean. Realistically I should get rid of ours. I can't
even afford to feed them these days. But they are so handsome. My dd
has outgrown them and as Santa brought her a Tenn Walker 2 christmases
ago, she hasn't rode or even worked with the minis for several years.
They are rotten! But today I looked out and saw them galloping around
the pasture (I use that word loosely - mud pit would be more accurate
this winter) and just watched in awe at their beauty as they galloped
and bucked. Pure beauty and freedom. One *was* a drop dead gorgeous
black stallion that everyone told me I *had* to have neutered but I just
could not bring myself to do it. He was SO handsome and studly and ran
like the wind with his long beautiful tail sailing behind him. But oh
he was a stinker and a biter. I know nothing about horses, and
definitely know nothing about breeding them. When Santa approached me
about this Tenn Walker mare that needed a home I knew the boy's time had
come :-(. It was a sad sad day for me, but I had no way to separate him
from the mare and I was told it would be a nightmare (no pun intended!).
He has lost a bit of his studly posture, but still is as beautiful as
ever. His companion was/is a gelding. They came together. They run
together. I would have loved to have been able to breed the boy. I
have been told so many times he is the most beautiful mini ever.
I have been curious about your name. Do you have other miniatures? I
always wanted a farm of miniature livestock of various
species....donkeys, Dexter cows, etc.
Warmly, Janice
