Lots of people use those cotton rope dog chew toys, the smaller size,
to keep the mouth open a bit and keep the tongue pushed back. We've
also used the outer sheath of a 6cc syringe, the core of a roll of
vetwrap, anything that's about 1/2" - 3/4" in diameter, and not too
hard.
