Re: [AlpacaTalk] Re: spots
Hi there,
and this is where I strongly disagree.
We need to focus on the cottage industry end. It is a huge and insatiable market that we continue to ignore.
If we truly want to be in large scale production we must all be
breeding for white. What I really can't wrap my head around is why
folks want to sell their fleeces to some large scale producer for the
lowest possible dollar when small scale folks pay far more for high
quality. Yes it takes time and energy to develop these markets but the
rewards are much greater.

"So what's the problem? "
You're right Heather,
It is quite interesting when you process your fiber in a small scale. It is wonderful for the cottage industry. We all love it.
But
we have to focus on commercial processing on a large scale, and that's
where you can run into problems, because if your fiber is
"contaminated" it all goas into the grays. Now, would you like to
see only gray yarns and textile being offerd on the market? I don't
think so. ;o) This is why on the large scale we have to
adjust our breeding programs to eliminate as much contamination as
possible.
Cheers,
Susan
